This Manual Handling Training Course helps employers ensure that they and their employees are sufficiently trained in the principles and practices of safe manual handling.

The manual handling course is aimed at employees at all levels who may undertake manual handling operations, including transporting a load of items by lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling, carrying, manoeuvring, steadying, or transporting thereof by hand or by bodily force.

Course follows the requirements of The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work, (General Applications) Regulations 2007, Chapter 4 of Part 2 (www.hsa.ie).

Learning outcomes

Safe Manual Handling

Learn theoretical and practical knowledge to conduct manual handling activities (light or heavy) in a safe manner.

Understand how to perform a safe lifting the lift and thus avoid injury to the spine.

Avoid Risk of Injury

Carry out a manual handling risk assessment of existing manual handling tasks.

Course overview

Manual handling is one of the leading causes of work-related non-fatal injuries in Ireland. Incorrect manual handling is responsible for more than a third of all workplace injuries reported to authorities yearly.

Our 2 hours course is designed to provide the necessary information and training for organisations to understand more about the risks associated with manual handling, how to undergo a risk assessment and how to ensure appropriate control measures are implemented.

The manual handling course is aimed at employees at all levels who may undertake manual handling operations, including transporting a load of items by lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling, carrying, manoeuvring, steadying, or transporting thereof by hand or by bodily force.

Upon completing this course, you will receive a Certificate in "Manual Handling Training" valid for 2.5 years, in line with Health and Safety Authority (HSA) and issued by a qualified trainer certified as a Manual Handling Instructor.

Importance and legal requirements of Manual Handling

Regulation 68 of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work, (General Application) Regulations 2007: “ Manual Handling involves any transporting or supporting of any load by one or more employees, and includes lifting, putting down, pushing, pulling, carrying or moving a load, which by reason of its characteristics or unfavourable ergonomic conditions, involves risk, particularly of back injury, to employees.”
