Importance and legal requirements for PAT Testing
PAT Testing is regulated by the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 in Ireland. This legislation is implemented under Statutory Instrument S.I. No.299 of 2007, which came into force in November 2007.
Hundreds of fires in Ireland are caused by household appliances every year; the National Standards Authority of Ireland noted that almost one in five fatal fires in the State are caused by an electrical appliance. Therefore, PAT tests are essential to ensure the safety of any electrical appliances and to ensure that these safety standards are being maintained. PAT Testing must be performed once a year.
